Ukrainian sovereign Eurobonds started 2017 on a positive note amid investor expectations that the country will manage to maintain its support from the United States after incoming President Trump takes office. President Poroshenko stated over the holidays that there will be no reversal of his government’s European integration strategy. In domestic political developments, there was a firm message from Parliament Speaker Andriy Parubiy that there won’t be a pre-term national parliamentary election in 2017. Parubiy, a member of the People’s Front junior coalition party, said that early election scenarios are being pursued by “populist parties and pro-Kremlin forces inside Ukraine”. This quote represents a clear reference to, respectively, Yulia Tymoshenko’s Batkivschyna party and the Russian-leaning Opposition Bloc, former archrivals who are now making common cause against the ruling coalition.
