Ukraine’s GDP growth for 2012 was 0.2%, according to preliminary data from the State Statistics Committee, far below initial analyst expectations of more than 3% growth. Based on its general outlook for emerging markets in 2013, the IMF has estimated Ukrainian GDP growth at 3.5% for the coming year, although this figure looks to be on the optimistic side. Retail sales growth, which registered an impressive 15.9% YoY rise in 2012, and a likely recovery in the global steel market will be the main drivers for the domestic economy.
