In the not so distant past, back before the world was focused on debts, defaults, bailouts and such, the saga of Ukraine’s struggle for self-realization in the brutish environment of post-Soviet geopolitics captivated the Western world. Not only was it an enchanting story of an emerging democracy slowing making its way towards the West, it was a startling reminder of the power exerted by Russia over both Ukraine and Europe.
